Shandong, circa 1900This piece is a little more unusual than most Chinese stools in that the legs are rounded rather than straight - a feature common in furniture from Shandong province on China's east coast. In a beautifully simple design, these pass through each of the classically 'S' shaped stretchers and into the moulded seat of the stool. The dark lacquer is still largely intact on the legs, though now worn on the seat itself. This is a great little piece that would work well as a side table next to a bed or sofa.
