Carved Bench

Yunnan, circa 1860
This large bench is from Yunnan province in China’s far south west. The apron and in particular the four legs include some wonderful carvings that have survived the years well. The bench has a ‘waist’ below the plank top and still has its original reddish brown colour. This is a lovely and very unusual piece that could be placed at the end of a bed or even used for seating at a dining table.
