Shaanxi, circa 1860Furniture from Shaanxi province in central China was often ornately decorated, particularly with carvings like the drawers of this table. The carvings go deep into the elm wood on the front of each of the three drawers and can be clearly seen now that the lacquer finish has been stripped back to show the woods natural colour. Other than the carvings, the style of the table is quite simple, with a plank top above the A-line shaped legs.
