Beijing circa 1900This long bench is quite typical of pieces used throughout China from early on in the country's history. The legs are recessed below an extended top, constructed so that the tenons at the top of each leg fit into the top, flanked either side by simple curved spandrels. The original lacquer has been stripped right off to show the pale elm wood below - full of rustic character. Great as a low table or at the end of a bed.
