Painted Box

Shanxi, circa 1880
This handsome little box was most likely used either for storing documents or as a keepsake box. It has some beautiful decoration on the front, showing a vase of flowers, with further decoration at each corner. The two rings on the front of the chest were designed for a cord to be passed through so that it could be easily transported.
