Interior Design Trends - The Industrial Look

Industrial style has been a trend in interior design for over a decade, first growing in popularity in redeveloped urban areas where it fitted in perfectly with open plan loft living and warehouse apartments. These types of spaces were great for industrial décor as they already included elements such as large windows, concrete floors, exposed pipes, metal and brick. More recently the style has also been used in more traditional living spaces – particularly in the kitchen – in the form of exposed walls and beams, reclaimed, rustic wood and other raw materials.

The style typically uses a very simple, natural colour palette of greys, creams and browns. These neutral colours give the feeling of space and allow for the room to be accented and brought to life with the careful use of furniture and other homewares. Iron, steel and other metals are an important part of the look, along with floor lamps and large overhead lighting. Vintage, antique and reclaimed wood furniture also fit perfectly into the industrial style, with functionality being as important as the aesthetic.

Fitting perfectly into this look, our own Industrial Furniture range has a strong design, clean lines and a tactile finish. It includes handcrafted, functional pieces made from natural, sustainable mango wood combined with distressed iron, along with iron framed chairs and stools upholstered with soft, tanned leather for comfort and style. You’ll also find a great range of storage options – iron and glass cabinets, wine racks and shelving, as well as iron framed mirrors to make the most of a light, open space.
