We have just launched a new online resource at www.chinesefurniture.co.uk, designed to provide a detailed introduction to Chinese antique furniture for the collector or enthusiast.
The site provides information on how furniture was developed over the centuries into the beautiful designs of the Ming and early Qing dynasties, describes the different styles associated with different regions of China, and gives details on the most common types of furniture, woods used and symbolism in Chinese design. There is als a section listing some of our favourite books and links to other useful sites about Chinese furniture.
The site is by no means exhaustive, but we hope it will serve as a useful introduction to those with an interest in the subject, or if you want to find out more about the background of some of the furniture and antiques that we sell here at Shimu.
