Beijing, circa 1900Our camphor chests would have been used in Chinese homes to store blankets, clothes and other items. Camphor was commonly used to make trunks and chests from early on in China due to its attractive wood grain and because its aroma acts as a natural insect repellent. This one has been stripped back to show the natural pale camphor wood and new hardware has been fitted. Great for storage and a perfect size to be used as a coffee table.
