Qinghai, circa 1900This large cabinet is from Qinghai in western China, and still shows its original paintings. The upper shelf is framed with a carved apron. The paintings are beautifully detailed and depict family possessions including books, vases of flowers and, strangely, an alarm clock! Like most Qinghai furniture the cabinet would originally have had just two doors positioned in the middle. However, the two outer panels have more recently been converted into doors, making this more practical for modern day use.
