Gansu, circa 1900This large, handsome cabinet is in a beautifully rich walnut wood. It originates from Gansu province in western China, where walnut was a common material for furniture as it was prevalent in the western part of the region. The cabinet has the distinctive mini cabriole (or 'deer shaped') feet of Gansu furniture but is otherwise quite plain in style, with the original large, circular brassware being the only other decorative element. The wood itself has a lovely, deep colour and patina and this piece would sit beautifully in a bedroom or reception room today. Two drawers provide extra storage space below the main section, which has one shelf inside.
