Qinghai, circa 1880The lacquer, paintings and the door hardware on this side cabinet are all original, the black lacquer now largely worn especially around the bottom of the cabinet. Typically of Qinghai furniture, the paintings show antiques and other possessions - designed to denote the owner's high status. The structure of the cabinet is very simple, with the doors set into thick frames and a single drawer above. There is a single shelf inside.
