Gansu, circa 1900This beautiful cabinet started life storing grain in the western province of Gansu. Originally it would have been deeper, with the inside being accessed through a top lid. To make it more practical as a modern sideboard the front panel has been converted into doors. The cabinet is in a lovely deep red lacquer, with now subtle paintings of flowers around the frame. The doors are surrounded with a carved frame, with similar detail in the bottom apron. This is a lovely piece that would bring real warmth and character to a living or dining room.
