Beijing, circa 1750This solid, square shaped cabinet is one of the oldest pieces in our current collection, dating from the Qian Long period of the Qing dynasty around 250 years ago. The upper circular hardware is original, while the lower hardware and three drawer handles have been replaced more recently. The four Chinese characters on the upper doors and panels are for good fortune and prosperity. The simple, square cornered style is typical of furniture from northern China but it is rare to find an old piece like this in such good condition.
